Problem Statement
The problem I'm trying to solve is restaurants and their food waste. Food waste in restaurants ranges from the food that guests don't finish to prepped food that gets thrown out because there's no need for it anymore. There are lots of laws regarding just directly giving away food to homeless people on the street. I wanted to solve this problem by somehow connecting homeless shelters an restaurants so they could give their unused food to them for them to cook with and feed the people in the shelters. The food that restaurants throw out a lot of the time isn't unsafe to eat but they know it wouldn't get used in used in the upcoming days. If restaurants have catered events there is often large amounts of untouched food that doesn't get eaten that just gets thrown out which is also another example of perfectly fine food someone in need could eat.

Where does the food come from?
During my research one of the main question's I wanted answered was where do shelters get their food from now? Most places said they rely on donations (food drives), and charities like Bread Food Bank or Second Harvest. They also said they generally have enough food for the week to provide 6 hot lunches, and breakfast, dinner everyday. They do lack certain food items for example baby formula, which unfortunately smart scraps couldn't solve.

User Flows

Restaurant user flow
These are the user flows I made in the beginning of my process. I wanted to focus on making the app as straight to the point as possible because restaurants could easily throw out their food if they find the process too time consuming or confusing.
